Sam Berlind is an Ohashiatsu teacher and practitioner living in NYC. He studied Comparative Religion and Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland – this inspired him to begin studying and teaching Iyengar yoga. After moving to NYC, he continued this interest by studying Sivananda yoga and teaching classes, which he continued to do until 1991. Wanting to understand more about the relationship between the healing properties of yoga asanas and meridians, he began studying Ohashiatsu with Wataru Ohashi in NYC.
He fell in love with it and began teaching for Ohashi in 1987. He has taught every level of the curriculum from Beginning I to Advanced II in NYC, Omega Institute, Chicago, Baltimore, Zurich, Roma, Milano, Torino, Firenze, Bari, Ancona, Bologna and other locations. In addition, he has been training COIs in the US, Italy and elsewhere since 1988 as well as writing and editing several levels of the curriculum.
Sam also teaches enhancement workshops and seminars based on his study of Feldenkrais Method, Gestalt therapy, Pauline Sasaki, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Herbal Medicine, and other modalities. His understanding of the healing arts has been deeply influenced by his study of martial arts – he has been a student and teacher since 1989, in particular a Japanese style of karate (Seido) and T’ai Chi.
